Aisling Dunne’s work in painting, sculpture and video is inspired by recollections of histories, memories and dreams. She is driven by an interest in symbols and objects which she has gathered throughout her life. Her work often focuses on the difficulty she has in putting emotions and thoughts into words and is interested in the prevalence of this within Irish society. She makes work about the inconsistency between what we say and how we feel, and explores the difference between people’s recollections of the same event. She engages in research on the symbolic nature of Irish folklore and the rich history of paganism and celtic mysticism in Irish history. She is currently creating multi-media installations based on the worship of the feminine goddess and nature in Irish mythology and the environmental and patriorcal impact of this on Irish society.
